Mr. Williams Lanier "Bill" Adams Sr., age 77, died Tuesday at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Macon, Miss., and the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Adams and the late Leila Irene Cotton Adams. Mr. Adams was a WWII veteran, having served in the United States Navy and was a graduate of Mississippi State University. He was a member of the Statesboro First United Methodist Church and the Dan Williams Sunday School Class. Mr. Adams retired as a vice president of Cal-Maine Foods and he also worked in Mississippi with the extension service and the insurance business. He served as an officer in various state and national agribusiness and civic organizations. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Adams; a brother, Charles Edward Lindley; his grandson, James Adams Cromley; and his mother-in-law, Frances Dunlap Barnett.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Mary Isabelle Barnett Adams of Statesboro; one son, William Lanier Adams Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth Wrenn Adams of Plano, Texas; three daughters and a son-in-law, Ann Adams Cromley and her husband, Lee Cromley of Brooklet; Mary Elizabeth Adams and Grace Adams, both of Statesboro; grandchildren, Jennifer Adams, Frances Adams and Meg Adams, Mary Catherine Cromley and Mollie Cromley and John Cromley, Jr.; one sister, Martha Lindley Hightower of Macon, Miss.; and two sisters-in-law, Nyleen Barnett Bell of Monroe, La., and Nancy Lindley of Starkville, Miss.
The funeral service for Mr. Adams will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Statesboro First United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in the Brooklet City Cemetery.
