Loving husband of Dolores O'Neill Bassi (deceased), adored father of Matt, Liz, Ginny, Marte, Dede, and Mike, devoted grandfather to Amy, Tony (deceased), Gina, Joe, Maria, Neill, Dan, Sophie, and Natalie.

He was born in California and raised in San Francisco, where he lived his entire life. He was a 1930 graduate of Mission High School and a member of the 1930 Mission High School Championship football team. He studied at U.C. Berkeley, and joined the San Francisco Fire Department in 1935.

He had a forty-one-year career in the San Francisco Fire Department, most of which he served in the capacity of an assistant chief/division commander. He loved all sports, was an excellent cook, and was a lifelong San Francisco Giants fan. He lived a full and rich life and died at the age of ninety-seven surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Cecilia Church, 17th and Vicente Streets.
Private committal at Holy Cross Cemetery.
