He joined his regiment at Petersburg, Virginia. He was mustered out at Delaney House, Washington, DC, July 30, 1865. After the war he settled in Cochise County, Arizona, where he worked as a laborer. He appears on the 1886 membership roster of Bisbee's Kehoe Post, Grand Army of the Republic. Jacob filed for a Civil War veteran's pension and received certificate No. 896,336. He was a resident of Fairbank when his health failed him. Jacob was admitted to the Sawtelle Soldiers' Home February 1, 1893. He was never married. According to his home record he died of pneumonia.
