Township Farmer Follows Short Illness

John Thomas Cole,
Age 55, Dies in Hospital;
Funeral Rites, Saturday
The passing of a Wabash town-
ship farmer, John Thomas Cole,
came as a shock to his many
friends in Montezuma as his ill-
ness was of short duration.

Mr. Cole who was 55 years old,
died at the Union hospital in Terre
Haute at 11 p. m., Thursday night
of heart trouble. He had been sick
10 days but, took seriously ill at 1
o'clock Thursday afternoon, the
day of his death. He entered the
hospital just two hours before he
died.
Mr. Cole was born September 11,
1887 at Hillsdale, a son of James
and Mary Cathern Myers Cole.
With the exception of 18 years
spent on a farm south of Monte-
zuma, he lived his entire lifetime
in and around Hillsdale, where he

worked at various brick plants and,
coal mines. He and his family
moved to his present home 18 years
ago where he started farming.
He married Winifred Shepherd,
February 11, 1912, who besides
four children, survive. They are
Mrs. K. B.King, and Mrs. Ralph
King of Orestus, John Thomas
Cole Jr. at home and Mrs. Jay
Payton of Montezuma. Two daugh-
ters, Mary Catherine and Mrs. Ma-
ble Doan preceded him in death. A
brother, Carl Cole of near St. Ber-
nice and a sister, Mrs. Pearl
Knight of Hillsdale also survive.
Funeral services were conducted
at 2p. m., Saturday from Brown's
Funeral home. Rev. A. L. Vermil-
lion, Methodist minister of Darling-
ton, officiated and burial was made
in Oakland cemetery.
