He came over from Poland with his parents, Walter and Bertha Benke Denisiuk in 1920. He failed his first year in school because of his lack of English. However, when he graduated from Derry High School in Derry Pennsylvania he was the validictorian. In Pennsylvania, he worked in the coal mines, then he and his family moved to the Gary, Indiana area where he worked in the steel mill and was also a Rainbow Vaccum Cleaner Salesman. He married Thelma Marie Piper on September 11, 1939 and divorced April 1, 1965. He was the father of 9 children. He was a devout Catholic all of his life.
