Bernard Lee Briggs, 76, of Marysville, Washington, formerly of Livingston, Montana, passed away on January 10, 2011 at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Livingston, MT, to Herbert and Thelma Briggs, on July 18, 1934.

He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served for 4 years in a variety of locations. He met his bride of 52 years, Carol, while on a picnic with his brother and Carol's best friend Joan. They were married in 1958 and resided in Livingston, MT where they started their family before moving to Washington State in 1986.

Bernie worked as a clerk for the railroad for over 40 years. Upon retirement he enjoyed traveling and seeing new places with his family. His dog Lucky was at his side for 16 years. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage where he mentored not only his children and grandchildren, but others as well.

He was an avid reader of many different books. He was a lifelong bowler with a perfect game of 300 while stationed in Guam.

He will be remembered as a man who loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren in all of their activities.

His parents, and his sister, Sylvia, preceded Bernie in death.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Carol, of the family home; daughter, Cherrayl (Ken) Harrsch, of Mount Vernon and their children, Michael, Brian, Dannielle and David; son, Lee (Kim) Briggs and their children, Alex and Kenzie, of Snohomish, WA; son Scott (Sherice) Briggs, of Lake Stevens, WA; and daughter, Susan Freeman and Scott Ellis and children, Justin, Taylor and Cody of Marysville. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Herb (Joan) Briggs, of Sammamish, WA; sister, Esta Marlene (Erlynn) Harris, of Livingston, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon, WA on Friday, January 14th, 2011 at 1:30. A celebration of his life will be held in Livingston, MT in July.
