Lewis "Lewey" A. Blow, 84, of Burlington, formerly of Mt. Pleasant and New London areas, died at 8:42 PM Friday, February 18, 2011, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington after a brief illness.

Born September 30, 1926, in Huron, SD, he was the son of James Arthur and Mae Elizabeth Eaton Blow. On September 30, 1944, he married Lois L. Hartman in Burlington. She died July 29, 1985.

Along with his wife, Lewey owned and operated Lewis Blow Masonry which they established in 1957. He was a master stone mason, and completed many masonry projects in a 100 mile radius including the building of Burlington Community High School, Autumn Heights, and Big Muddy's restoration. He later bought and sold heavy equipment.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the 33rd Infantry in the Occupation of Japan Theatre during World War II from April of 1945 until November of 1946.

He was of the Christian faith. He was a member of New London VFW Post 7641, and the Bricklayers Union in Burlington for many years. He enjoyed working, visiting with people, heavy equipment, auctions, mushroom hunting, going to casinos, and especially spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol (Rod) Linkin of New London; two sons, Edgar (Joyce) Blow of West Burlington, and Scott Blow of Burlington; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; one great-great-grandchild; one step great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Betsy Stulken of Wessington Springs, SD, Hazel Suedes of Evansdale, WY, and Jeanette Farmer of Texas; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Linda Johnson of Burlington.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one great-grandson, three sisters, and one brother.

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Lewey will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Buck officiating and full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Hass-Thielen community room following the interment.

A memorial has been established for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
