ISABELLE NAQUIN PLANTE
Age 86 years, 5 months

Wife of the late John Hector Plante.

Mother of James Roland Plante, and the late Norman Charles Plante, and John Hector Plante Jr.

Daughter of the late Albertine Duet Naquin and Eugene A. Naquin.

Step-daughter of the late Melanie Guidry Naquin.

Sister of Kirby Naquin.

Half-sister of Lillian Rita Naquin Belanger, Freddie Naquin, Albert "Boy" Naquin, Guy Naquin, and Annette Naquin.

Aunt of Phyllis Naquin LeBlanc and Kirby A. Naquin.

Niece of the late Agnes Elizabeth Duet LeBlanc, Raoul Duet, Adam Duet, Lydia Duet, Lovincy Duet.

Granddaughter of the late Mathilde Elizabeth Hebert and Adam Valcour Duet.

Grandmother of Alisa Plante and Jason Plante.

Survived by her son James Plante, her grandchildren, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.

After the death of her mother, she went to live with her maternal aunt, Agnes Duet and her husband, Clifford LeBlanc. She remained close to the LeBlanc family, including the children, Ruby and Clifford, throughout her life and was a beloved cousin to all her cousins' children and grandchildren.

She was an elevator operator in Mercy Hospital, New Orleans, for many years. When automated elevators were installed, she was given the option to work in the hospital's gift shop, but instead opted to retire, as she claimed, "It's time".

For several years, she lived in a Catholic retirement home on North Johnson Street. After several falls, she moved to the Little Sisters of the Poor assisted living center in Algiers.

Isabelle was a breast cancer survivor. She underwent a lumpectomy and was cancer-free for several years before her death. For some time before the end, she told her family it was time, her body was wearing out. She died peacefully, in her sleep, while napping after lunch the day before Independence Day, 1994.

She was a devout Catholic and her youngest son, Norman Charles Plante, died in the seminary while studying for the priesthood in 1958. His death was a great loss to Isabelle, her family, and to the Church.

Isabelle's oldest child, John Hector Plante Jr., died as a young toddler in 1934, age 2 years.

Not long before her death, she claimed she was "tired and ready to go".
