POCAHONTAS - DeWayne M. Roetman, age 75, of Pocahontas, formerly of Gowrie, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral Services 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2011, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard, with Pastor Neil Hayen officiating. Graveside Services and Burial 3 p.m. Friday, March 11, at the Hillside Cemetery near Merrill, Iowa. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 10, at the Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Iowa.

DeWayne Marlin Roetman was born July 18, 1935 in Colton, SD, the son of John and Hennrietta (Visser) Roetman. He graduated from LeMars High School in 1953. He married Darlene Richards on June 6, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hinton, IA. The couple moved to Gowrie in 1955 where they made that there home until moving to Pocahontas in 2008. While living in Gowrie, DeWayne was first employed by the Gowrie Municipal Utilities. He later began a career with Farmland Industries which spanned more than twenty years. He ended his tenure as Operations Supervisor.

DeWayne was a devoted husband and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, teaching them his passion of hunting and fishing. He was an avid outdoorsman that always returned more to nature than he took. He was an active member of Ducks Unlimited and a black powder enthusiast. Darlene and he traveled following his retirement, attending their grandchildren's school and sports activities. In recent years, much of his time was spent at their wetland farm west of Pocahontas.

DeWayne is survived by his wife Darlene and their four children: Jeffrey (Marcia) Roetman of Iowa City, IA and their children: Tyler (Jenny), Tiffany, Brittany, Brooke Ann, Jordan, Brandon, Madison and Alex; Jennifer (Robert) Heuertz of LeMars, IA and their children: Steven, Matthew, Emily, Rachel and Stephanie; Joel (Tammy) Roetman of Coon Rapids, IA and their children: Jacob, Joseph and Justin (Sara); and James (Julie) Roetman of Pocahontas, IA and their children: Nicole and Austin; and five great-grandchildren. DeWayne was preceded in death by his parents.
