Harry W. Boyd, Sr., 74, of Olga Avenue, Windsor, died Sunday (September 28, 1997), at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center.
Born in Aiken, S.C., he lived in Windsor for 32 years. He served during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a medic with the U.S. Marine Corp attached to the 5th Marine Battalion at Iwo Jima.
Among his decorations were the Purple Heart, the Presidential Unit Citation and the Navy Unit Citation.
He was a member of the Raymond B. McHugh Post No. 4740 VFW, Windsor, and the Iwo Jima Survivors Association.
He was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Church. He had been employed by the Newington Children's Hospital as shipping and receiving supervisor before his retirement.
He leaves his wife of 51 years, Dorothy (Mensinger) Boyd; a son, Harry W. Boyd, Jr. of East Hartford; a daughter, Patricia Goulet of Plainville; a brother, Raymond Boyd of Vernon; four sisters, Mrs. Carson Reopell of Bolton, Mrs. Clinton Mason and Mrs. Guezester Mason, both of Augusta, Ga.A, and Mrs. J.D. Jones of Stone Mountain, Ga.A; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may gather Wednesday, 9:15 a.m. at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave.nue, Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Bburial, 10 a.m. in St. Gabriel's Church, Windsor.
Burial with military honors, will be in Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery. His family will receive friends Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
