James Howard Blount Sr. was born February 19, 1931 to the late Alice Gardner and Johnnie Blount in Birmingham, Alabama. He was the second of six children. His siblings, William, Samuel and Rozena preceded him in death.
His family moved to Michigan in 1944 and resided in Royal Oak Township. He graduated from Northern High School.
He was employed by the City of Detroit and was a Superintendent for the Department of Public Works. He retired from the city in 1991.
James married his high school sweetheart, Delores Jones, on September 28, 1951. Four children, James, Jr., Sandra, Philip and Marvin were born to this union. Delores, James and Sandra preceded him in death. James enjoyed being with his family and friends. Florida was his favorite vacation spot. He was at home in the kitchen and was master of the grill. His corned beef was shipped to relatives and friends across the country. James was an avid bowler who could joke and laugh with the opposing team as he rolled that most important spare or strike that let his opponents know he had stuck the fork in them and they were done.
James embraced the tenets of the Jehovah's Witnesses by baptism on January 31, 1998. He loved teaching about God's Messianic Kingdom and shared his talents as a true ministerial servant. The members knew that Brother James' financial statements would be balanced to the last penny and could pass any audit.
James completed his purpose in life on June 16, 2013 at 5:30 p.m.
