Was in the Civil War-Union Army. His father Luther Humphrey Finney came to Michigan with his brother Romanta Finney in the Fall of 1838 to Woodridge, Hillsdale Co. Michigan. His father Luther Humphrey Finney, married Elizabeth A Blanchard ca.1840 and had 4 children, one of which was Samuel Wixom Finney. "Wixom" was a family name in Elizabeth's family line. Elizabeth died after Oct 1863,I believe in childbirth, and Luther remarried.
Samuel Wixom Finney married in Quincy, Branch Co. Michigan Mary Alice Stevens in 1867. They then had moved to Faulkton Co, SD by April of 1886, and lived there the rest of their lives in the area.
