Born in La Porte on September 9, 1910 to Ira Elmer and Mattie Bue (Morman) Provolt. She graduated from La Porte High School in 1929.

Married Rudolph Ludwig Hermann Hannemann at First Baptist Church in La Porte on April 11, 1936. Together they had one daughter:
1. Joan Lou (b. 05/09/1937 in La Porte)

Rudolph and Lyla settled outside of La Porte, near Door Village, where Lyla would keep house. After her daughter grew up, she worked for a time as a secretary at the hospital in Westville. She was also active in civic organizations, such as the Rebekah Lodge and Eastern Star, as well as her church, St. Paul's United Church of Christ in La Porte.

Died on June 6, 1991, in La Porte of an infection and was buried near her home in Door Village on June 8.

Mrs. Lyla A. Hannemann, 80, of 905 Pennsylvania Ave., LaPorte, died at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 1991, at LaPorte Hospital. She was born Sept. 9, 1910, in LaPorte to Ira and Mattie (Morman) Provolt. Mrs. Hannemann was a retired secretary, working for Beatty Memorial Hospital for eight years; a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ; Rose Rebeccah Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. On April 11, 1936, in LaPorte, she married Rudolph Hannemann, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Joan Lawrence, of Taylorville, Ill.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One sister preceded her in death. The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Haverstock Funeral Home, with Rev. Dorothy Palmer officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 this evening and Saturday until the service. Burial will be in Door Village Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ.
