LeGrand Black, 89, passed away peacefully at home in Murray, Utah Sept. 8, 2002 after an extended illness. He was born Sept. 24, 1912 to Morley Larsen Black and Lydia Ellen (Nellie) Porter at Pearson, Chihuahua, Mexico. he married June Bateman in the LDS Salt Lake Temple March 28, 1935. LeGrand and June are the loving parents of JoAnn Price (Murray); Roger (Sondra)Black (Idaho Falls); Alan (Ileen) Black (Murray) and Bruce (Penny) Black (Kearns). He was known for his dedicated service to his family, neighbors, church and community. He worked for the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Dept., Metropolitan Life and retired as a journeyman Carpenter with Granite School District. He served the community of Murray as a City Councilman from 1983 to 1987. He and June served in the Winnepeg Canada Mission and were called to serve as temple workers at the Jordan River Temple. He also served in many capacities with LDS youth, as a member of the bishopric and High Council. He loved family reunions, sports, woodcarving and gardening. LeGrand is survied by his wife June, children, brothers Orin, Guss, Dall (Joy) Black and Sister Ralene Black Metcalf, other children of LeGrand's father, Glen Black, Rachel Black and Darlene Black Billings, 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. The family expresses their deep love and appreciation to JoAnn Price as principle caregiver, to CareSource Hospice and Dr. Edward Wyne. LeGrand lived a life of compassionate service and left this earth a rich legacy of love and honor. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 14, 2002, at 12:00 at the LDS Belview Ward Chapel, 300 East 6300 South following a viewing at the same location from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Murray City Cemetery at 5600 South Vine Street.

Completed a Two year LDS Building Mission to Winnipeg, Canada where he helped Construct a Chapel.
Completed a three year LDS Mission as a Temple Worker at the Jordan River Temple

Fundraising Chairman for the Murray High Band Canada Trips
Assisted in the construction, development and maintenance of the Murray Friendship Park, Murray South Stake.
