Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Eunice Marie Elkin, four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Elkin, who live on a farm southwest of Milford. A short prayer service was held at the home at 2 p.m., and at the Little Sioux Lutheran church at 2:30, the Rev. E. A. Grefthen conducting the services, and the Rev. L. A. Mathre of Estherville, a former pastor of the family, delivering the sermon. Music was furnished by a quartette, composed fo Mr. and Mrs. L. H. DeWitt, Mrs. Earl Hartman and Vaughn Amundson, who sang "Jesus Loves Me" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." Mrs. DeWitt sang a solo, "Will the Circle be Unbroken," and a cousin, Mr. Minor of Des Moines, sang "What a Friend We have in Jesus," Mrs. E. A. Grefthen was the pianist. Casket bearers were Raymond Mitchell and Loren Klein of Estherville, Orville and Kenneth Knudtson of Milford. Burial was in the Little Sioux Cemetery.
Eunice Marie Elkin was born January 23, 1936 on a farm near Estherville and died Sunday morning, April 7 at home of her parents, after an illness of some time with rheumatic fever. She is survived by her parents and a baby brother about a year old, beside her grandparents and several aunts and uncles. The Elkin family moved to this community a year ago in March and have made a host of friends who sympathize with them in their sorrow.
Relatives who attended the services were Mrs. Elkin's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Hoovel and her sister, Miss Sophia Hoovel of Spirit Lake, two other sisters and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Knutson, Alpha, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Jacobs of Spirit Lake; four brothers and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Jan Hoovel and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Hoovel of Jackson, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hoovel of Fostoria and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Hoovel of Spirit Lake; Mr. Elkin's mother and brothers, Mrs. Della Elkin and Roland and Marshall of Estherville, a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Elkin of Spirit Lake, a sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Lambert Roetman of Lake Park, and an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ward Minor and son of Des Moines.
