Clark was the sixth child of nine born to George Washington Goodale (1830 NY - 1903 KS) and Phoebe Elvira Nichols (1839 MA - 1923 SD). He married Anna Christine Witty (1875 MN - 1966 MN) in Polk county, Minnesota on 29 Nov 1891. They had eight children: Arthur Lloyd, Bessie Elivra, Earl Henry, Lucy Ermine, Eva Mable, Ella Pauline, Clarence Marvin, and Mae Edith. His brother Sidney Marcus Goodale (1869 IL - 1946 MN) married Annie's sister Mary Johanna Wilhelmina Witty (1869 MN - 1966 MN).
C. B. Goodale, 77 Dies At Home Here Monday
The death at his home here on Monday of C. B. Goodale marked the passing of another pioneer citizen, a man who had been closely identified with the growth and development of the village since his arrival in the community 62 years ago. Mr. Goodale's death resulted from an illness of long duration. He was 77 years old.
Clark Baker Goodale was born at Genoa, Illinois on September 22, 1866. On November 1, 1881 he came to this community with his mother and a brother, Sidney, the three taking up a homestead four miles west of Fertile.
November 29, 1891 Mr. Goodale was united in marriage to Anna C. Witty at Fertile. They remained at the homestead until 1895 at which time he purchased a farm three miles from Fertile. In 1907 Mr. and Mrs. Goodale moved to Fertile and this village was his home for the remainder of his life.
Mr. Goodale owned and operated a dairy business here for a number of years, disposing of his interests in 1937.
During his years of residence in the village, Mr. Goodale took an active part in all affairs of a civic and progressive nature. He held several offices of public trust.
Surviving Mr. Goodale are his widow and eight children, who are: Arthur Goodale of Bishop, Calif.; Mrs. Lloyd (Bessie) Krum, Mrs. Truman (Mae) Gibson and Earl Goodale, all of Yakima, Wash.; Clarence Goodale, Kirkland, Wash.; Mrs. George (Eva) Smith of Fergus Falls, Minn.; Mrs. Albin (Ella) Bartz and Mrs. H. O. ((Lucy) Narverud, both of Fertile. Also surviving are a brother, Sidney, of Randall, Minn., a sister, Mrs. Martin of Salem, Ore., 28 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held today (Thursday) at two p. m., at the Erikson Funeral Home with Rev. G. W. Tolo officiating. Interment was made in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers were Odd Eide, John Mattson, Lennart Mattson, Jos. Rasmus, W. N. Miller and A. O. Gullickson.
