John M. Brunner, 80, nationally known mortician, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 1945 at his home in Los Angeles after a prolonged illness.
A native of Iowa, he moved to Los Angeles to 1902 where he became a partner in Peck & Chase Undertaking Company. He served in that capacity for 22 years, becoming president of the California College of Mortuary Science in 1928. He retired in 1939 due to ill health.
In Los Angeles, he had served as president and secretary of the California Funeral Directors Association and president of the Association of Embalming Colleges.
He leaves two sons, S. Douglas and Frank R. Brunner (Frank Brunner later joined Bresee Bros. & Gillette Mortuary), and two daughters, Mrs. John T. Knudson and Mrs. Roy H. Kreyser, all of Los Angeles.
The funeral was conducted in the chapel of Bresee Bros. & Gillette Mortuary, 950 W. Washington.
