Rites Are Planned for Bulloch Hero
Pfc. E. L. Poindexter to Be Re-buried Tuesday
Statesboro, Ga., Aug 29 - Funeral services and reburial will be conducted Tuesday for Pfc. E. L. Poindexter Jr., Statesboro World War II hero killed in action on Cebu in the Phillippines on April 12, 1945.
The body will arrive this Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock, and will be taken to the residence of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Poindexter at 201 North College Street.
Pfc. Poindexter was born in Statesboro and was a graduate of Statesboro High School, class of 1942. He attended Emory at Oxford, Ga., and Georgia Tech before entering the service on July 11, 1944. He completed basic training at Camp Wolters, Tex., an infantry replacement center. He left for overseas duty January 1 1945 and arrived at Cebu on February 10 where he served with the American division. He was 19 years old when he lost his life on April 12, 1945.
He is survived by his parents and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Miller.
Services will be conducted Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the home of his parents, the Rev. T. E. Serson will officiate. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery. Barnes Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Pallbearers will be selected from his high school graduating class. Honorary pallbearers will be selected from American Legion Post 90. The National Guard will have charge of the military honors.
