STATESBORO -- Funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon for Marine Pfc James R. Brannen 20, who was killed in action last week in Viet Nam.
Brannen had been in South Viet Nam for six weeks before he was hit by enemy sniper fire while out on patrol near DaNang.
He had joined the Marines last January and had been stationed at Parris Island, S.C., Camp LeJeune, N.C. and Camp Pendleton, Calif. before going to Viet Nam.
He was a graduate of Walterboro, S.C. High School.
Survivors are his parents, Mr. & Mrs. C. B. Brannen of Statesboro; a brother, John Charles of Statesboro; two sisters, June and Cindy Brannen of Statesboro; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Alice Rogers of Statesboro and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Brannen of Statesboro.
Smith-Tillman mortuary of Statesboro is in charge.

Statesboro - Funeral Services for Pfc. James Robert Brannen, age 20, will be held Sunday 3 P.M. from the Clito Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Coggins, Rev. Quinton Hodges Rev. Harnam Williams conducting the service. Burial will be in the Eastside Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Love, Wayne Moore, Freddie Boxxe, Richard Hatcher, Billy Bob Bowen, and Sammy Hagen. Pfc. Brannen was killed in Viet Nam September 20. Full military honors will be given Pfc. Brannen by the U. S. Marine Corps. The body will arrive in Statesboro Saturday morning and will remain at the family residence near Clito until the funeral hour. Smith-Tillman Mortuary of Statesboro.
