FLOERSHEIM-Carl Floersheim, Jr, 88, of Albuquerque, passed peacefully in his sleep on February 6, 2011. A third-generation native New Mexican, Carl was born on January 20, 1923, in Springer, NM. Carl is survived by his wife of 56 years Lynn Floersheim of Albuquerque; son Kurt Floersheim and his wife Beth and their daughter Erin of Tyler, TX; son Scott Floersheim and his wife Jean and their daughter Kate of Albuquerque, NM; brother Stanley Floersheim and his wife Rita of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law Dorothy Floersheim of Raton; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by son Mark Floersheim and brother Myron Floersheim. Carl was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. A pilot in the United States Air Force, Carl served his country in World War II and again in the Korean War. Following active service, he continued as an active member of the Air Force Reserves, achieving the rank of Major. He was a member of the 22nd, 69th, and 74th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadrons where he maintained many life-long friendships. After World War II, Carl returned to Springer, NM, where he worked with his father and brother Myron managing the Floersheim Mercantile store. Carl served his community as a volunteer member and eventually as the Fire Chief in Springer, NM; as a Cub Scout pack master; as a Little League coach; and as a member of local civic groups. After closing the family store in 1970, Carl moved his family to Albuquerque, NM, where he worked for the NM State Highway Dept as a systems analyst until his retirement in 1988. After retiring, Carl ably assisted his son Scott in his CPA practice for many years. He also enjoyed researching his family's genealogy, reading novels, and taking care of his beloved canine friends. His decades-long loyalty to the Boston Red Sox was finally rewarded in 2004 and again in 2007. Carl will be deeply missed by his family and many dear friends. In accordance with Carl's wishes, no formal service will be conducted. Carl will be interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
