My maternal grandmother

She was a very quiet and loving grandma. She may not have said a lot but you always knew where you stood with her. With such an outgoing husband, she was always the voice of reason. I remember Grandpa letting out the world's biggest belch in public and Grandma stood up and said very loudly, "WALT!!!! Remember the children!!!!" That's all she had to say. Grandpa was the fun-loving, outgoing type while Grandma was quiet, not really having to say a word. She just gave you that LOOK...I think my mom must have inherited that very same look because I saw it quite often throughout the years...

25th Anniversary is Celebrated by Wanatah Couple ~ published in The Vidette Messenger, June 13, 1957
WANATAH, IND. -- Mr. and Mrs. Walter Batzka were surprised Sunday afternoon when they arrived home from a picnic at Michigan City and found relatives gathered to help them celebrate their silver wedding anniversary.
A silver decorated money tree, a bouquet of American Beauty roses and a tiered wedding cake appropriately decorated the table, where a potluck supper was served to the following guests: Mrs. Fred Werner, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Morrison, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Werner and family, Wanatah; Miss Edris Anderson, Valparaiso; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Werner and daughter, LaCrosse; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Batzka and sons, Monticello; Mr. and Mrs. Fred E. Batzka and nephew Ronald Meyers, San Pierre; Mr. and Mrs. Bernell Douglas and son, Miss Dora Batzka, San Pierre. Also present were the honored couples son, Kenneth and daughter, Joan.
Another surprise came when the Batzkas received a phone call from Mr. Batzka's sister, Mrs. Lillian Hamay of Phoenix, Arizona, extending greetings.
In the evening moving pictures were shown by their son, Kenneth and games of croquet and cards were enjoyed.
