Enid had one firefighter die in the line of duty in 1930. Assistant Fire Chief Carroll E. Kersbergen fell 25 feet when a rope being used in a lifesaving demonstration broke, causing Kersbergen to land head first on the concrete.
Kersbergen suffered a fractured skull and other injuries, dying shortly after.

Accident Injuries Fatal to Fireman (Sunday)
Enid, May 3 Carrol Kersbergen, assistant chief of the Enid fire department, who was injured in a fall Friday in which he sustained a fractured skull, died Saturday night.
Kersbergen and Clyde Lawter were sliding down a rope in the saving practice when the rope parted, hurtling them down. Lawter suffered several broken bones but is recovering.
