William Clemence "Bill" Ahmuty Jr., 79, died July 4 at Candler Hospital.
He was a native of Rhode Island and lived in Savannah since 1952. He retired from the Air Force as a chief master sergeant with more than 22 years of service. He was one of the first military personnel to be made an E-8 and E-9 at the former Hunter Air Force Base. He served during World War II, the Korean conflict and the occupation of Japan. He retired from Georgia Regional Hospital in Savannah as a supply clerk. He was an Episcopalian.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Hazel Bland Ahmuty of Savannah; a brother, Ray Ahmuty of Providence Town, R.I.; two sisters-in-law, Eva Bland of Portal and Anna Gilmer of Aiken, S.C.; a brother-in-law, Douglas Bland of Fayetteville, N.C.; three nephews, three nieces and several cousins.
VISITATION: 6 p.m. today at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home, Statesboro.
GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 3 p.m. Tuesday in Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
