James R. Draffin, 62, of Laurinburg, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2011 in Laurinburg, North Carolina. He was born on January 29, 1949 to the late Roy and Ida Mullis Draffin and had lived in Valdosta and Albany in his youth.
He graduated from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs) with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He received his Masters of Public History from North Carolina State University and was a Professor of History at Richmond Community College in Hamlet, North Carolina when he died. Jim was a remarkable teacher who was loved and respected by his students and recognized as an outstanding educator by his peers.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Shirley Draffin; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Stephen; his two beautiful granddaughters, Anna Catherine and Caroline; his adored aunts and cousins. Jim loved his family and was so very proud of each and every Mullis and Draffin with whom he shared and treasured his life and memories.
