ELWOOD HAGENMAIER BURIED SUNDAY A brief history of Eldon Earnest, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Hagenmaier. He was born on December 5, 1912 on the home place northwest of town and died in a Manhattan hospital, March 12, 1937 when only 24 years, 3 months and 17 days. He secured is education in the nearby Prairie Rock school. Growing up he continued his work on the farm until the last 3 years. He had been employed at the farm house of Julius Olson for about 2 years and since last September had been living in Manhattan. Some time ago he had been examined for entry into the navy and had lately received word to report for duty about the last of this present month. Apparently well and hearty until about a week ago, he became ill and it was soon seen that it was serious; He was then taken to a hospital where every effort was made to relieve the condition but pneumonia made such rapid progress that after about two days he was unable to resist its advance. Elwood, as he was usually called, had made friends by his friendly and cheerful disposition, and those who made his acquaintance will remember with satisfaction his kindly attitude and manner. As we reckon life his was all too short, but there is an enemy which we call death who is no respecter of persons, and age, youth or infancy may be the time of his arrival. How comforting then it is to know that a loving and wise as was as just and powerful Creator has made provisions for another life. Jesus Christ, the Son of God was obedient unto death and by virtue of this was resurrected from the dead, thus becoming a ransom for the human race. He had covenanted with His Father for a kingdom, and when this is set up He as a victor over death will apply His own words when He said, "I have come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly." He is survived by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Ruth Bowman of Pendleton, Oregon; and three brothers Virgil of Manhattan, Marvin and Melvin of Phoenix, Arizona as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Six cousins served as pall bearers and the services were held at Chelander's chapel on Sunday, March 14 at 2 p.m. by J. W. Chelander. A mixed quartet composed by Mrs. N. C. Noreen, Miss Ruth Hoaglund, B. E. Nygren and N. C. Lovgren furnished the singing with Miss Betty Noreen at the piano. Burial followed in the Fancy Creek Cemetery.
