Gideon Blackburn "Gid" Hart, Jr. was born on December 2, 1840 in Sand Hill, Bartholomew County, Indiana. He died on May 30, 1923 in Breckenridge, Caldwell County, Missouri. He was a veteran of Co. H. 12th Indiana Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War of the States. He was discharged in June 1865 with the rank of Captain. After his discharge he engaed in the hardware business, then farming, feeding and shipping of livestock. He was a Charter Member of the Breckenridge Presbyterian Church, organized in 1866. He was also a Chief Promoter of the Breckenridge, Missouri "Lodge of the Grand Army of the Republic," Isam Kieth Post #164, organized in 1885. In 1893, after a hotly contested primary election, he was appointed Postmaster of Breckenridge, which office he held for four years. His Parents were Gideon Blackburn Hart, Sr. and Harriett Alexander "Hatty" Taylor.
Gidion's spouce was Mary Eliza O'Rear whom he married on October 30, 1866 in Breckenridge, Caldwell County, Missouri. Mary was born on April 28, 1848 in Mt. Sterling, Montgomery County, Kentucky, Mary died on June 15, 1930 also in Breckenridge. Her parents was George C. O'Rear and Amanda B. McWilliam. Gideon and Mary's children were Charles E. Hart, Walter O'Rear Hart, Lucy D. Hart and Myra Taylor Hart. Gidion and Mary are both buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Breckenridge,Caldwell County, Missopuri.
