Served in Company C, 12th Indiana Infantry and Company C 46th Indiana Infantry during the Civil War. William was married to Mary A (Leeka) Miller in 1878. The couple divorced in 1890. The following year he married Mary (Turner) Dill. He was the son of John Barnhouse, Jr. (1780-28 January 1850) and Rachel Baker. Their burial locations remain undiscovered as of 24 August 2023
