Afton Fisher Bybee, 88, entered the arms of our loving Heavenly Father June 15, 2004, at Idaho Falls, following a three-year battle with ovarian cancer.
Afton was born Jan. 24, 1916, in Annis, to Hyrum James and Artemissia (Macy) Clark Fisher. She was the seventh of 10 children. She grew up and attended school in Annis, Gilmore, St. Anthony, Island Park and Rigby.
Afton married her high school sweetheart, John Grant Bybee, March 15, 1935, in Annis. They built their home on the family farm and have lived there their entire lives. Their marriage was blessed with two children. On Nov. 29, 1962, their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. She worked with her husband on the family farm before going to work for Taylor Produce for 30 years, Excelsis Beauty College as receptionist and the Fabric Store in Rigby for 10 years.
She was a member of the LDS Church and served as a teacher in the Primary, Sunday School and Relief Society, as president of the YMIA and in the Spanish Extraction Program.
Afton won several blue ribbons for her crocheting at local fairs and enjoyed many crafts. Her greatest love was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed being around people and had a positive attitude during her trials.
Survivors include her husband, Grant Bybee of Annis; a son, Aldon Lynn (Marilyn) Bybee of Sedalia, Colo.; a daughter, Ronna Lee (Garold) Summers of Idaho Falls; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister Donnetta Merrill of Annis; and a brother, Oren Fisher of Weiser.
She was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers and sisters.
The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Mulvey and his staff and to those from Hospice who were so devoted.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby by Bishop Kevin Searle. The family will visit with friends Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Menan LDS Stake Center and Saturday from 12:30-1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
