Ralph Wayne Hazelitt, 77, Topeka, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at a Topeka care center.
He was born Jan. 6, 1923, in Atchison, to Ralph Wilbur and Nina Priest Hazelitt. He graduated from Atchison High School in 1940. He worked for Tilton's Markets in Topeka and then for the Topeka- Shawnee County Health Department. He retired in 1986.
He served with the 8th Armored Division in the Army in Europe during World War II.
He was a member of Orient Lodge No. 51, AF&AM, Scottish Rite bodies and Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion, all in Topeka.
He married Betty Jean Hess on March 17, 1943, in Topeka. She died June 6, 1986.
Survivors include a son, Scott Wayne Hazelitt, Mission; a daughter, Karen Carson, Berryton; a sister, Hope Smart, Atchison; and two grandchildren.
Orient Lodge No. 51, AF&AM, and Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion will conduct private graveside services at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Hazelitt will lie in state from 4 to 5 p.m. today at Newcomer Family Funeral Home.
