Born at The Meadows, the son of Robert Lee and Mary Buckner Thurston Magill Randolph. He graduated from William and Mary in 1855. He trained for the ministry at the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria. At the age of twenty-two years he was appointed rector of St. George's in Fredericksburg. When he and his family were ordered to vacate the fair city in 1862 because of the encroachment of the Northern invaders, he became a post chaplain in the Confederate States Army. Post-bellum he led large flocks at Old Christ Church in Alexandria and Immanuel Church in Baltimore. He eventually became the first Bishop of the Diocese of Southern Virginia.
Norfolk. VA.. April 9 — The funeral of the Rt. Rev. A. M. Randolph, Bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia. who died here Saturday, was conducted from St. Luke's Episcopal church at 9:30 o'clock this morning. The service was conducted by Bishop Beverly D. Tucker, of Lynchburg, who succeeds the late Bishop; Bishop A. C. Thomson, of Portsmouth. The Rev. D. W. Howard, D.
D, rector of St. Luke's, and the Rev. C. Braxton Bryan, D. D. of Petersburg.
The funeral was attended by members of the local camp of Confederate Veterans of which Bishop Randolph was a member, about one hundred members old the clergy and many friends. Following the funeral service the body was carried to Richmond, where interment was made in Hollywood Cemetery.
