He fought at Winchester, Seven Days, Manassas, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. He was killed at the Battle of Payne's Farm. Trained as a physician, he enlisted in May 1861. He was an 1849 graduate of Jefferson Medical College. Refusing a medical assignment, he was wounded four times before he was killed.
