There is no marker for him in the plot with his name on it. Records indicate he is in there.
In the regimental history of the 15th Virginia, there is information that relates that on February 19th, 1863, the unit was moving through Richmond and spent that night in Manchester. It seems that night Ben Bates was the guard at Mayo's bridge. The one boys would have to cross to spend the night at home, with long missed loved ones. The story goes that Ben looked the other way plenty that night. Including when a wagon full of "blankets" was allowed to cross.
