Son of a wealthy planter. Light complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, 5' 6" tall. Born in Northumberland Co., 2/28/34. The family moved to Middlesex Co. in the 1830s or 40s. Student there in 1850. Running his own part of the family estate, alongside his father, in Middlesex Co., in 1860. Married (1) Julia Brooks, 12/20/60 (1 child), (2) Ella, c.1873 (5 children), (3) Mary E., in 1894 (1 child). Enlisted in Co. C, as a sergeant, 7/18/61. Went home, sick, 11/5/61 and was unable to return to duty. Discharged due to lumbago of the loins and hips, on 1/13/62. Occupation given as lawyer on his discharge papers. Conscripted back into the army from Middlesex Co., 10/7/64. Assigned to Co. E, 20th Bn. Va. Heavy Artillery, from the Camp of Conscription, 11/5/64. Present, sick in the battalion hospital, 12/31/64, final roll. Post-war farmer in Pine Top District, Middlesex Co.. Died there in the early 1900s.
