Ronald C. Oberbreckling age 64, of Wyoming, died Monday afternoon, June 28, 2010 at the U of I Hospital, Iowa City from complications of Lou Gehrig's disease.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 Thursday morning at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello with interment in the North Madison Pioneer Cemetery, Center Junction. Rev. Lori Riley officiated at the services. Friends called from 3 to 7 Wednesday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.
Surviving are his wife Jean, four children, Todd of Monmouth, Jenny Lange, Mechanicsville, Tim and Shane (Cory) both of Onslow, six grandchildren, Justine and Brian Lange, Jaclynn and Elizabeth (Bizzy) and Alshia and Keaton Oberbreckling. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He is also survived by three sisters, Madonna Gustafson and Del Rose Phelps, both of Cedar Rapids, Marge (Rich) Wolfe, Ryan, seven brothers, Lester of Stanwood, Tom (Lana) of Onslow, Herb (Cathy) Anamosa, Daniel (Linda) and Charles both of Troy Mills, Luke (Mary) Mechanicsville and Randy of Cedar Rapids; and his ice cream buddy Nibbles. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Jerome, Art and Mark; and his mother and father-in-law, Donna and Ralph Lux.
Ronald C. Oberbreckling was born August 3, 1945 at Manchester, Iowa. He was the son of Otto and Alvina (Timmer) Oberbreckling. He received his education at the Manchester and Ryan Schools. Ron married Jean Lux on August 5, 1967 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello. The couple moved to Wyoming in August of 1987. Ron's life passion was being a mechanic and working in his shop that he started in 1992. He continued to go to the shop and work until March when his strength left him. He had worked at Caterpillar in Mt. Joy, at Big Bill's in Wyoming, and for Skip Burnett Construction and at Steitzer Lincoln Mercury.
