Services for Mr. Aloys Crittington Adkins, 74, of Homer, were held Friday, December 8 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Homer with Don W. Tate, pastor of the Homer Church of Christ and Dr. James Simeon, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Homer assisting. Burial was at Arlington Cemetery.
Mr. Adkins died Wednesday, December 6 a Schumpert Medical Center after a brief illness. A Claiborne Parish native, he served over 42 years as an educator in the public schools of Louisiana and Arkansas. He was a teacher and coach at Farmerville High School; principal at Junction City Elementary School; principal at Crossroads Junior High; principal at Junction City High School; principal at Summerfield High School; and principal at Homer High School, from which position he retired in 1980. Mr. Adkins received his elementary and secondary education in the public schools of Claiborne Parish. He was a graduate of Louisiana Tech in 1938 and he received his master's degree in administration from Louisiana State University in 1951.
He held memberships in numerous civic and professional organizations including the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Louisiana Principals Association, the Louisiana Tech Alumni Association, Phi Delta Kappa and the Louisiana Rally Association. He served as president of the Louisiana Class 1-AA High School Athletic Association for four terms, the Claiborne Parish Hunting and Fishing Club, and the Homer Lions Club. He was an active member and Sunday School Teacher of the Homer Church of Christ.
Survivors are his wife of 50 years, Mary Elizabeth Tinsley Adkins; three children, Jerry Aloys Adkins of Bastrop, Tommy Jess Adkins of Ruston and Pamela Elizabeth Adkins Yester of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two brothers and one sister, Maurice Adkins of Minden, Calvin M. Adkins of Haughton and Evelyn Adkins Lyles of Minden; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers wee Elmer Poss, Vernon James, Dr. Jerry Andrews, William Kennedy, Ronny Beard and Matt Martin.
