Georgia Alma Zikmund, one of three children of Lawrence and Ora (Troubaugh) Cook, was born on a farm near Clay Center, Nebraska, on October 9, 1906, and passed away suddenly in the Brodstone memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 13 days.
At age 18, she married Joseph Zikmund on March 9, 1926, at Mankato, Kansas. She and Joe lived on a farm eight miles north of Nelson for 17 years. This union was blessed with one son. They moved to Nelson where they lived for five years, then moved to Superior where they lived for 38 years. She was employed as a cook at several businesses and the school. In 1987 they moved to Nelson where she lived at the time of her death.
She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary #3101 of which she was past president and an active member, and was in charge of funeral dinners for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Joe, of Nelson; her son, Floyd, and his wife Mercedes of Grand Island; one grandson, Timothy, and his wife Paula Zikmund of Nelson; two great grandchildren, Zachary and Ashley Zikmund; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Georgia enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers, playing cards with her friends at the Senior Citizen's Center, and fishing.
She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who know her.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, June 26, 1989, at 2:00 p.m. from the Klawitter-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Nelson with Rev. Ken Fairbrother officiating. Music was provided by Ilene Nielsen, soloist, and Myrtle Worley, organist. Casketbearers were: Lloyd Soukop, Roy Drapal, Don Cook, Jake White, Bob Schiermeyer, and Kenny Jensby. Honorary casketbearers were: Don Kuhlman, Kevin Madsen, Gayle Eitzmann, Mick White and Henry Soukop. Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery, Nelson, Nebraska. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson was in charge of arrangements.
