James C. Herod passed away on Tuesday August 13, 1983 in White Settlement, Tarrant county Texas.
J.C. was born August 28,1915 in Limestone County Texas to Duard Arnold Herod and Winnie Gertrude Strickland Herod. There was a dispute as what to name him at the time, so they just named him JC, initials only. Most of his family called him Jake and his friends called him JC. It was not till he entered the Army and they asked for his name, he was told he had to have a name the initials would not work, he told them it was James Claude, James after his grandfather, James Benjamin Herod, and Claude after his grandmother's brother, Claude Baker. Dad always said he was born in Groesbeck. I asked Mom about this before she passed and she confirmed the fact he was born in Groesbeck not Throckmorton. I found a copy of his orginal birth certificate and it confirmed the fact he was born in Throckmorton. There was not a name on the certificate, just date of birth and parents.
He had to have a birth certificate so his mother had it filed. My father believed he was born in Groesbeck.
In 1937 he married the love of his life, Myrtle Alexander and they moved to Olney, Texas.

J.C. enlisted in the Army Dec 28 1942. He was in Battery D 467th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion. On June 6,1944 he was at Omaha Beach during the Normandy Invasion.
J.C. had a medical discharge from the Army when a half-track he was working on fell and broke his back.

After WWII they settled in White Settlement, Texas to work at Consolidated Aircraft, in 1960 he went to work for the Postal Service and was there until he retired. He served as an elder at the White Settlement Church of Christ for many years. He was a part time minister at the Cresson Church of Christ till 1960 when he had to start working weekends at the Postal Service.
He was survived by his wife Myrtle and two daughters, Kay and Sue.
