Private Jesse Thompson was the son of Elswick & Martha H. Rush Thompson. Jesse enlisted in Company B of the 9th KY Infantry (USA) on September 24, 1861 at Camp Anderson in Flippin, Monroe County, KY. He was 20 years old at the time of his enlistment. He was sent to Camp Boyle in Adair County, Ky to train, he got sick, as did many other young soldiers. He is listed as dying of fever on December 12, 1861 at Camp Boyle. He was buried in Plat C, Grave # 27 of the Tompkinsville National Cemetery, Tompkinsville, KY.
