A memorial service for George W. Brown, M.D. of Tyler will be held on Tuesday, November 28th at the First Baptist Church of Tyler, downtown campus at 11am. Visitation will be held Monday, November 27th from 6pm to 8pm at the Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler. Dr. Brown died on Saturday, November 25, 2006.

Dr. Brown was born on September 7, 1921 in Alexandria, LA. He first attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas, then graduated from Baylor University in 1942 and went on to Southwestern Medical School in Dallas to become a pediatrician. After serving in the Army during WWII, he returned to Dallas to complete his residency at Children's Hospital. He married Jane Mosley on December 25, 1942 and together they moved to Tyler. Dr. Brown was the first board certified pediatrician to practice in Tyler and practiced medicine for 52 years.

In 2001, Dr. Brown was the recipient of the 12th annual Gold-Headed Cane Award by the Smith County Medical Society. The Gold-Headed Cane Award goes to a physician for demonstrating the highest qualities of excellence, service and selflessness to his community, family and in the art and science of medicine. He enjoyed practicing medicine and especially caring for children.

Dr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Brown of Jacksonville, two brothers, Willis G. Brown and Frank H. Brown and his son, James M. Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Mosley Brown, son and daughter-in-law, William C. and Neta Brown, of Tyler and son, George T. (Thom) Brown of Dalhart, seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
