Charles "Chuck" Schmerbauch of Meridian, Idaho, died January 30, 2003, in Meridian, Idaho.
He was born in Matthews, Missouri, on September 7, 1917, the son of Charles and Julia (nee Sutton) Schmerbauch.
He married Helen B Siedlecki on May 7, 1949. She died on July 22, 1993.
Mr. Schmerbauch worked for Edmund Petry on a farm south of Troy, Illinois, before he joined the US Air Force in 1941. He spent time in Europe and Japan and at several air bases in the US. He retired in 1961 as a Master Sergeant.
He lived and worked in Arizona at the White Water Dam Project in Phoenix and later for the University in Tempe, Arizona, until his retirement.
He moved to Idaho in November of 2002.
He is survived by a daughter, Diane Schmerbauch of Boise, Idaho; six brothers, Arthur, Robert and George Schmerbauch, all of Troy, Illinois; Erwin and Roy Schmerbauch, of Collinsville, Illinois; Jack Schmerbauch of Ocala, Florida; five sisters, Pauline Lewis of Troy; Ella Prendiville of Melbourne, Florida; Blanch Nix of Claremont, New Hampshire; Viola Schmieg of Granite City, Illinois; and Dorothy Schmerbauch of St. Louis, Missouri.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Daniel, Joseph, and Marcus Schmerbauch.
Funeral services were held on February 7, 2003.
Internment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, Arizona. (bio by: Judith Nix Castellini)
