Lincoln Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Homecare & Hospice, 11800 Tech Rd., Suite 240, Silver Spring, MD 20904.

Joseph Koenig was a Civil Service Machinist at the Washington [D.C.] Navy Yard during World War II. Although he tried repeatedly to join the service, as his brother had, he was refused each time as having a skill critical to the war effort. He finally was allowed to join the US Navy, upon which induction he was assigned to his old job at the Navy Yard (much to his frustration) thwarting his desire to serve overseas in a combat post. He therefore chose to never claim any credit or benefit from his wartime uniformed service.
