Augusta Marie Genz was born in Polnow, Pomerania, Germany on May 5, 1864, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Genz. At the age of 19 years, she came with friends to the United States and worked in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a couple of years.
On May 6, 1884, she married Helmuth Schimmelpfennig at Brownton, Minnesota. After their marriage, she moved with her husband to a farm 2 1/2 miles west of Brownton. They had six children born to them, Herman, Albert, Amanda, Alma, Elizabeth and Martha. Elizabeth and Martha died as infants.
Her obituary says she had enjoyed good health until fracturing her hip 2 1/2 years previous to her death. This confined her to her bed for more than a year and in later days, mostly to the house. During this time she alternated living with her daughters. Six weeks prior to her death she became seriously ill and died at the home of her daughter, Amanda.
She was survived by her son Albert, and daughters Amanda Gehrke and Alma Zander, and a sister, Anna Braun of Brownton.
