Wilhelm Schimmelpfennig was born December 21, 1829, in Providence, Koslin, Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gottleib Schimmelpfennig. In 1855 he married Johanna Ludvig. They had five children, four sons and one daughter. They emigrated to the United States in 1882, coming directly to Brownton, Minnesota, where they settled on a farm two miles west of Brownton where their son Helmuth had settled the previous year. He died at the home of his son, Helmuth. His obituary says "His sickness was not accompanied by pain and he passed away in a wishful way." It also says, besides his family, he was survived by "a host of friends who always admired "Grandfather Schimmelpfennig" for his good traits of character and a most honorable old gentleman."
While his obituary says they had five children, I only find information on two sons, Helmuth and Frank. Johanna's obituary says that two sons were born to them. The 1900 US Census says Johanna had 5 children born to her, with 2 living at that time. I will keep looking for information, but I'm thinking the others may have died quite young, probably before they came to America.
