Lyle was the son of Aaron and Myra Isabell Hatch Asay.

He married Elsie Egan on September 3, 1919 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Lyle attended Dixie Academy in St. George, Utah. He graduated from the Big Horn Academy in Cowley, Wyoming.

He attended the University of Wyoming at Laramie for two years and graduated from Brigham Young University.

He spent two years in the Army during World War I.

He taught school at South Sevier High School for 30 years retiring in 1959.

He was active in the American Legion Post No 37 in Monroe, Utah where he lived for 37 years. In 1968, he moved to Provo.

He filled many positions in the LDS Church, among them was Bishop of the North Ward in Monroe for seven years. He was on the South Sevier Stake High Council for 11 years. He was an Ordinance Worker at the Provo Temple for six years. At the time of his death, he was a High Priest in the Park 4th Ward.

He died at Utah Valley Hospital at the age of 82.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 8, 1977 at 11:00 a.m. in the Park Forth Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 101 West 800 North in Provo. A Viewing was held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 1977 at Walker Mortuary in Provo and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
Lyle was laid to rest following the conclusion of the funeral services in the Orem City Cemetery.
