Maurine Eyring Boyd 1912 ~ 2007

Our loving, beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Maurine Eyring Boyd, passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 95, on June 24, 2007. Gathered around her preceding her death were precious friends and family members who love her dearly. Maurine Eyring Boyd was born in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico on April 30, 1912. Her parents were Edward Christian and Emma Romney Eyring. When she was three months old, Edward's two families were driven out of Mexico during the revolution to escape danger and bloodshed. They became refugees in El Paso, Texas leaving a life of wealth and great prosperity they were never to know or enjoy again. Maurine grew up in Pima, Arizona along with her 17 brothers and sisters (of which 15 lived to adulthood), most of whom have preceded her in death. Those still living are Rose Calder, Salt Lake City, UT; Ethel Taylor, Ft. Collins, CO; and Jeneveve Layton, Provo, UT. Maurine skipped several grades in school and went away to UCLA in Los Angeles at 16, financing her education working during the Great Depression in the homes of the wealthy, and graduated at 19. She taught Home Economics and coached a winning field hockey team in Ft. Thomas and St. David, AZ, before falling in love and marrying in the Mesa Temple, her eternal companion, George Tilton Boyd, who preceded her in death on June 19, 2004. George was a director and instructor in the LDS Church Educational System for about 40 years. Maurine went back to teaching Home Economics in California for 20 years before retiring in 1974. In 1977, they relocated in Utah to be close to some of their children and grandchildren.
Maurine and George had six children: Kay Camille Heber (Keith), Orem, UT; John David (Billie), Redway, CA; George Edward (Gemma), Walnut Creek, CA; Sterling G., Provo, UT; William Eyring (Ilene), Mapleton, UT; and Kimberly Ann, Provo, UT. She has 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren who all adore, love her and will miss her terribly. She was a faithful and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her life was centered around and devoted to the Savior whom she deeply loved. To the end she endeavored eagerly to learn and deepen her spiritual understanding of the gospel as she spent hours each day reading, studying and pondering the scriptures. She loved attending the temple weekly and derived fulfillment and meaning in life knowing that she was of service to others. She cherished the very gift of existence her creator gave her and was filled with wonder, happiness and joy as she appreciated the glory and beauties of God's creations. The spiritual well-being of her family was of fundamental importance in her life as her most treasured desire was to be with them throughout the eternities. She was truly an elect lady. Her life, her very being, exemplified Christ-like attributes: love, obedience, goodness, forgiveness, truthfulness, compassion and an inner desire to always strive for excellence in all that she did. The likeness is further realized when one recognizes in her the unparalleled work ethic grounded in her complete selfless willingness to give, to sacrifice her all for another. She never uttered a hurtful or unkind word. She was gracious, patient, thoughtful and never raised her voice, always speaking affectionately and softly. Everyone was her "darling", "beautiful" or "sweetheart" and she always had a smile on her face; her trademark! Her sweet, loving angelic example will live on in our memories and we will rejoice as we remember her life, righteously lived. She unwaveringly endured faithfully to the very end with dignity and humility. We joyfully picture her in the arms of her beloved husband, mother, father, sisters, brothers and many friends.
Maurine was preceded in death by her husband, George, her great-grandson Shaun and her brothers Henry, Ed, Anthony, Miles, Leland, Joseph and LeRoy, and sisters Camilla, Mary, Catherine, Caroline, Ruth, Isabel and Margaret. The family of Maurine would like to express our deepest appreciation and gratitude to those friends who faithfully showed their love to our mother, especially during the last few months of her life. We would also like to thank Dr. Richard Olsen and all those at Health Watch who cared for both our mother and father with love and compassion, especially Carl Lopez whom we dearly love. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 2, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview South Stake Center, 1122 North Grand Ave., Provo, UT. Friends may call at the church on Sunday, July 1, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment, Provo City Cemetery.
