William Emmett Johnson
William Emmett Johnson of 55 East Pulteney Street, who was well known throughout the vicinity for having done the original landscaping of Denison Park, died at the Corning Hospital Friday evening at 7 o'clock. He had been reported to be repidly recovering from an operation performed two weeks ago and his death was unexpected.

Born on May 21, 1872 in Binghamton, the son of Henry Johnson and Celestia Johnson, he was married to the former Miss Johanna Bechtold in 1894 in Jersey City, N. J.

Moving to Corning at an early age, he wad lived in this locality most of his live.

One of the oldest employees of the Corning Glass Works, he was a retired glassblower after serving for 58 years. He operated his own greenhouse and flower shop at his residence for 42 years.

He was city florist at the time he landscaped Denison Park.

He had been attending the Christian Missionary Alliance Church and was a generous contributor to the Missionary work of the church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Johnson, four daughters, Mrs. Ivan Lake of Painted Post; Mrs James Farrell of 196 West Pulteney Street, Mrs Herbert Halls of Jackson Heights, L. I., and Mrs. Hubert Hughes of Tioga, Pa.; two sons, Glenn of 60 East William Street and William of 162 Bridge Street; one brother, Charles of Corning and one sister, Mrs. Darcy Curren of Corning, 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The body was removed to the Carpenter Funeral Home on East Pulteney Street where friends may call until Monday noon.

The body will be taken to the Christian Missionary Alliance Church at noon on Monday and services will be conducted there at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Henry Straub, pastor officiating.

Interment will be in Coopers Plains.
