Townsend, William S. Age 18. Residence Toledo, nativity Pennsylvania. Enlisted Dec. 23, 1863. Mustered Jan. 23, 1864. Taken prisoner April 9, 1864, Pleasant Hill, La. Died while a prisoner of war, Tyler, Texas, Sept. 1, 1864. Buried in National Cemetery, Alexander, La. Section 32, grave 29.


April 9 1864 is the date of the battle of Pleasant Hill Louisiana, where William S Townsend was taken prisoner. He actually died several months later as a POW at Camp Ford, prisoner of war camp, Tyler Texas.
