Hopkins Porter Moore was born in in either Great Valley or Hume, Allegany County, New York. He was the Son of Oliver and Charlotte Frary Moore. He was educated in the common schools, and at an early age came with his family to Pennsylvania where he became a General Merchant during all of the years he lived in Towanda Borough, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
He only had one sibling, a Brother, John Moore.
He married Amelia C. Nobles on August 8, 1839.
They had the following nine known children: Helen Amelia Moore Coburn, Charles Porter Moore, Hila Louise Moore Patch, Emma Maria Moore, Henry Tracy Moore, Ulilla Sophia Moore Updyke, Hannah Nobles Moore Learn, Nobles Frederick Moore, Charlotte Evelyn Moore and Kate Neta Moore.
