Bertha used two different maiden names during her lifetime. Her father's last name was Bockover, and her mother's maiden name was Loyd. When her parents divorced, her mother Anna used her maiden name (Loyd) for her and her two children, until she remarried Benjamin Frank Graff. Bertha and her brother Alva are the children of Thomas Bockover and Anna Florence Loyd.
Bertha married Ernest Cady in 1909. Together they had four children, three of which lived to adulthood.
According to their daughter-in-law Helen, Ernest and Bertha were the nicest in-laws you could ever ask for.
