Birth: Sep. 13, 1833
Garrard County
Kentucky, USA
Death: Feb. 20, 1914
Sullivan County
Tennessee, USA

PVT, Co. H, 7th KY VOL CAV, Union.

Obituary-Mr. Ansel George died at his home in Bristol, Tenn., on February 20th and his remains were brought here and after funeral services by Rev. J. Rockwell Smith, were interred in the Lancaster cemetery on last Saturday, the 21st. The Union soldiers of Lancaster, his former comrades in arms acted as pallbearers.

Mr. George was born in Garrard county near Lancaster on September 13, 1833 and his entire life up to ten years ago was spent in the county of his birth. Ten years ago he went to Bristol where he has since resided. He was married to Miss Mary Ramsey, the daughter of the late Alex. Ramsey, and she has long since preceded him to the grave. Only one child, William George, was born to them, and he died about seven years ago in Bristol.

Mr. George was a member of the celebrated 7th Kentucky Cavalry, Col. John K. Faulkner's command, during the Civil war, and he was in the company of which the late W.M. Kerby and Thomas Dunn were the Lieutenants. He was a gallant soldier and remained in the service until the close of hostilities.

He was a son of James George, one of the pioneer residents of Garrard. He was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church, having united with the church during the last meeting held by the late J. Lapsley McKee in Lancaster. Garrard county could never boast of a better citizen than Ansel George, and it was a source of great regret to a number of our people when he changed his residence. An upright, honorable Christian gentleman and a splendid citizen, has rounded out his fourscore years and gone to his great reward. Mr. George during the few years preceding his departure from the county and state, purchased property and resided in Lancaster, and a wide acquaintance in both town and county regret to learn of his death.
